Just for Kids

Eastern Madera County SPCA needs more voices for animals! At EMCSPCA, kids and teens can develop responsibility and compassion for animals in need through our many youth programs.

Compassion in Action

In this program, teens 14 to 17 years of age, learn how to socialize the animals and help make them more adoptable. There are four mandatory training days, plus optional days. The optional days include a pet care related lesson or Community Service project to benefit the shelter, plus time to socialize with our shelter dogs and cats.

Animal Stars

Students 10 to 13 years of age, will be trained to work directly with the animals in our care and get community service hours while they’re at it! They’ll also learn about important and trending topics in animal welfare and do projects around the shelter.

Book Buddies

The Book Buddies Reading Program was designed to help our shelter dogs and cats become more adoptable. Reading to them helps to bring comfort to and reduce the anxiety of shelter pets, and it nurtures empathy in children.
